Steven Samler is an American professional musician from Chicago. He writes music for several types of media including television, film, and video games. Steve started doing music at an early age, and by age 6, one of his songs was published in a local magazine called "Children Activities". He later graduated from the Northwestern University's school of music. He was the youngest person to compose for the school's talent show. After that, he started writing music for some TV and radio commercials and even some educational films.

In addition to writing video game music, he also wrote the music for the commercial for Paperboy (NES), though wasn't involved with the game itself.

NES

Steven's only NES game was Dirty Harry, which he composed with his colleague Elliott Delman.

Wow! that takes me back a long way. I wrote most of the music and then hired a friend of mine to supplement my work and meet the deadlines. If I remember correctly I just did a simple midi composition and the programmers inputted those notes in a format that they needed. It's been so long ago I can't remember clearly. It was either that or I created a track and output a wave file that they then used. At that time I was using Digital Performer. Since that time I've done some other games and basically created wave files.

Steve sent his MIDI files to Mindscape, which in turn was given to Nick Eastridge of Eastridge Technology, and input the note data into his sound driver in 6502 assembly language. According to Elliott Delman, the two composers both wrote independently, together, and would give each other ideas, so it's not too clear who composed what track.
