Shadow's Theme contains elements of traditional western music. It incorporates a Jew's harp and a high-pitch whistle. As a leitmotif, it plays whenever Shadow is the focus of a scene, like when you first meet him in South Figaro or again in Kohlingen. It also plays when you encounter him in the Colosseum. The song appears on the Final Fantasy VI Original Sound Version album.
