Scott Marshall studied piano when he was 6 years old. Later, he also studied clarinet and percussion. When he was 13, he started composing and arranging music for his school's orchestra. While he attended Princeton High School (the school that Ghoul School NES is based on), he studied advanced classical music theory. While he was in the high school band, he played xylophone and timpani. In the 70's, Scott played and sang in piano bars. In the 90's, he started working for Absolute Entertainment and developed a couple games there; Ghoul School and Space Shuttle Project. Marshall says that his musical influences for his video game music include Philip Glass. For Space Shuttle Project on NES, he says the inspirations for his music were from Glass and the movie "The Right Stuff".

Scott was also friends with sound programmer Nick Eastridge, and would work on a few projects with him.

While Scott no longer composes music for games, he does still compose music and is a photographer as well.

Music Composition

GBC

Scott created MIDI files that were converted to Nick Eastridge's sound driver.

NES

Scott composed the music on his Yamaha Clavinova and sequenced them on a DOM-30. Then, he would arrange his music for the NES specifically using Dr. T's KCS for the Atari ST. Then, Scott used a program called 'muscon' which converted his Dr. T's files to Alex DeMeo's sound driver for the NES.

For the title music for WWF King of the Ring, he probably wrote MIDI files on his sequencer. The MIDI files were then sent to Nick Eastridge to convert to his sound driver.

SMS

Scott coded a sound engine and wrote the music in assembly.
