Rudolf Stember is a German composer and sound designer who worked for Factor 5 since the mid 90s. He composed a score of C64 and Amiga soundtracks.

Music Development

Amiga

Stember used TFMX.

Commodore 64

From 1988 to 1989, Stember composed as The Holy Grail for the demo group Argon in Future Composer; 5 of these songs were later remade for 4 C64 games.

On games, he mainly used Soundmaster v3.1, whose driver was later modified (possibly by Stember) to allow fading and relocation. Only on The Tower of Terror, Audio Effect Editor was used, which, like the game, was programmed by Argon groupmate Alex Kirsch. Both music editors were commercially released on the same disk.

Stember used a low-pass filter on most basses and at least two melodies. However, the filter varies with every SID chip and the filtered sounds may be too loud, irregular or muffled. In VICE 3.2, most of his C64 game music sounds good with the model 6581 (ReSID) and a filter bias of -400, but it is unconfirmed how close it is to the SID chip(s) Stember used.

DOS

A driver for TFMX files from the Amiga existed.

SNES

Rudolf used the TROET SoundSystem by Factor 5.
