Ride of the Valkyries (German: Walkürenritt) is the popular term for the beginning of Act III of Die Walküre, the second of the four operas by Richard Wagner that comprise Der Ring des Nibelungen, and one of Wagner's most popular pieces. Although the opera wasn't officially produced until 1870, the melody of the tune was written down as early as July 23, 1851.
