Puzzle is an unlicensed game for the NES. While the game shows no copyright information anywhere in the game, it has been said that the game is developed by Idea-Tek.

The game is nothing more than a sliding puzzle game. There are only about ten levels in the entire game, most of which can be selected on the level screen by pressing the select button. As the player reaches higher levels, the game increases in difficulty by having bigger puzzles. If the player wants, they can press B to go to a little minigame where you can either play Rock Paper Scissors or a dice roll. If you lose, you lose some time, but if you win, you will be able to make a free move and switch any two pieces of your choosing. The game is really generous though and gives you a lot of time for each level. The game randomizes the pieces every time you play which gives the game some replay value.

Overall for an unlicensed game, it's not too bad, but the graphics aren't all that good. The controls are good and the music fits with the theme of the game. There is only one sound effect in the whole game though and it plays when a piece is being dropped onto the board at the beginning of the level.

Music

The music in this game is pretty good for an unlicensed game from Taiwan. The level theme music is calm but at the same time, gets you going. The level themes are lengthy, too so it will take a while for you to get annoyed from hearing the same thing over and over.

The game's soundtrack was programmed in 6502 assembly language. The Free Move song is most likely a real song since it was also used as a demonstration song in AdLib Visual Composer (DOS). Besides the third level theme and free move music that is written at 128 BPM, most of the soundtrack is written at 150 BPM. In the level complete music, the triangle channel loops a quarter note too early, which causes it to go off sync with the rest of the channels.

The game lacks credits. When you finish all the levels, after the last level, the game will simply send you back to the title screen without any ending. However, the music sounds very similar to Tiles of Fate which credits B.H. Ting and the music does not sound like the other composer Kossel Huang's work, who also worked for C&E and Idea-Tek.
