Peter Clarke began composing game music on the Commodore 64 in 1986. He composed a great deal of music in 1987 for Firebird Software and several other companies before finding a job at Ocean Software with friend Paul Hughes. While at Ocean, Clarke filled the shoes of Martin Galway who had just quit. Clarke only remained at Ocean for a few months before giving up videogame music for good.
