On the Hunt
On the Hunt was composed by Bobby Prince using the program Sequencer Plus Gold. Like most of the heavy metal songs in Doom, Bobby Prince used popular metal music for inspiration, and listeners compare this track to Believer's Sanity Obscure.
The song has an interesting chord sequence: Esusb2 plays in the introduction. Then the chord progression follows a blues chord pattern and with 5th and b5th chords sequentially (E5 F(b5), A5 Bb(b5), etc.) On the second loop, the song adds a 3rd to the notes, making it a major, major flat 5th.
This track appears on the Doom Music album as track four.
The song is played in Doom (DOS) in levels E1M6: Central Processing and E3M6: Mt. Erebus.
This track exists twice in the DOOM.WAD file under the names "D_E1M6" and "D_E3M6".
The song plays on MAP06: Central Processing and also on MAP15: Spawning Vats (replacing Waltz of the Demons).
Note: there is no E1M6: Central Processing level in this version to originally use this music track.
