Masaaki Harada is a Japanese composer and sound designer. Around 1988, he joined Advance Communication Company. There, he worked primarily on the NES alongside Osamu Kasai and Michiharu Hasuya. Since he was never credited on his own, it is unknown what exactly his role was. Around 1991, he left Advance Communication and had a brief stint with Compile working on Puyo Puyo.
He is currently an audio director at Konami with Kasai.
Music Development
NES
Masaaki used the in-house music software at Advance Communication Company called Sound Routine. The music was either written in hexadecimal or Music Macro Language.
SNES
For Ys III, he used a custom version of Nintendo's Kankichi-kun. For his other work, he used Advance Communication's custom audio engine, possibly by Hasuya.
Gameography
Aliases
In Ys III for the SNES, he is credited as R. Harada. It is unknown why there is an R instead of an M, but it is thought to be a mistranslation. The original Japanese version credits his kanji name.
