Joe Hisaishi (born Mamoru Fujisawa (藤沢守)). His compositions can be heard in all kinds of media including television, and especially film. His music ranges from the early 80's to this day.

Hisaishi started with violin lessons at age 5. He attended the Kunitachi College of Music in 1969. In 1984, he composed the film score to Toei's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. In 1985, he won the Grand Prize in the music category at the 2nd Animation Awards. In 1986, Hisaishi scored the music to the anime shows Arion, Castle in the Sky, as well as the film score for Maison Ikkoku.

Interestingly, Hisaishi also worked on a few video games. Unfortunately, none of them made it outside of Japan. He worked on the early Zoids games for Micronics, as well as the Ni no Kuni.
