Platform: DOS
Year: 1987
Developer: Sierra On-Line, Inc.

The 1987 DOS release of King's Quest: Quest For the Crown is and upgrade from the original PCjr and Tandy releases in 1984 with some bug fixes and a better soundtrack. In King's Quest you play the role of Sir Graham, the king's most trusted knight. It is up to you to seek out and find the three lost treasures of Daventry to restore the kingdom to its former glory.

The player controls Graham by using the arrow keys or keyboard to move him around, and typing out commands such as "look at the castle" and "take the walnut". The player will have to spend a lot of time wandering around the map, carefully examining the various plants, rocks, and people that inhabit the land.

Because it is one of the first adventure games of its type, King's Quest sets a precedence for later adventure games to follow, including the entire Sierra adventure series, as well as the Lucasfilm Games, the Kyrandia trilogy, and many others.

Music

The music of King's Quest: Quest For the Crown is pretty basic, consisting mostly of short chirps and buzzes. The only really long song is the opening song which is just an arrangement of Greensleeves. Other public domain tunes are used including Pop Goes the Weasel for the fiddle, and Chopin's Funderal March for when you dies.

Players who had a 3 voice chip heard better music than those with just a PC speaker. Both soundtracks have been recorded, tracks starting with a 1 are recorded from the Tandy 3 Voice chip, tracks starting with a 2 are recorded from the PC Speaker.

The music was ripped out using AGI Studio 1.38b. Because there currently aren't any players that accurately support the 3 voice format, the music was recorded during game play.
