John Halbleib is an American professional musician and jazz trumpet player. He started working for Strategic Simulations after his sister Susan (Manley) told the company about her brother being a musician. The company had John score the title themes for two of their Advanced Dungeons & Dragons titles; Champions of Krynn and Secret of the Silver Blades. After John had scored the two games, the company replaced John with one of their graphic artists Tom Wahl.

John continues to compose and perform music professionally.

Music Development

John says for his music composition for Champions of Krynn and Secret of the Silver Blades on MS-DOS, he used Master Tracks for the Atari ST. He said he also used Music X for the Commodore Amiga but it wasn't for his video game music.

Though the DOS version of Champions of Krynn credits Electronic Arts for its music driver, Halbleib confirmed that his music was arranged by the famous Rob Hubbard. It is unknown how Hubbard arranged John's compositions, but he likely took John's MIDI files and converted them into his sound engine.

Gameography

Note: John Halbleib is credited in the PC-9807 version of Secret of the Silver Blades. However, that version of the game contains all original music by Takeshi Yasuda. Therefore, it has been removed from his gameography.
