Heartlight PC is a simple Boulder Dash clone with difficult levels.

In a pre-Epic Games release, Princess Pricela (or Priscella) announces that she will marry whoever brings her all hearts of Heartlightland. As all young men mount their horses to find the land, little kobold Johnny transports himself using his little magic (which is also how he pushes items, survives and skips lost levels). In Epic versions, delightful elf Percival has to prove his skill and ingenuity, either without told reason, or to marry Gwendolyn (whose blood is in the hearts).

The game has no ending; after completing the last level, you go back to level 1.

Music

The game has a little trance soundtrack, which you may find either unobtrusively ambient or repetitive, but many sound effects make up for it.

Recording

All songs were recorded from the pre-Epic Games shareware game on a Pentium 60 MHz with a Sound Blaster 16 CT1740. Every couple of minutes, a loud click occurs, so multiple recordings were made until no click could be heard.

Releases

The game was shareware until one of the supporting programmers released the full version, recompiled within DOSBox, under a CC BY-SA 2.5 license. The full version allows 3 savegames and creating levels in a plain-text editor.
