Gábor Pongyor was a Hungarian programmer.
Pongyor graduated from Eötvös Loránd University as a programmer mathematican, as did an old friend of his, Antal Zolnai. Both their theses were about developing a Z80 assembly compiler for the Commodore 64. After graduating, they took programming jobs: Pongyor at OMIKK, and Zolnai for the C64 in real estate. However, they wanted more satisfying and challenging jobs, so Pongyor called Zolnai to join him asking Novotrade for game programming jobs. In Novotrade's basement office, which Zolnai immediately loved, they were told that there were no tasks yet.
A year later, Novotrade wrote Zolnai, asking them to program Water Polo (C64), which they did parallel to their real jobs. Satisfied, Novotrade offered them space to found their own software studio. They finally quit their jobs, named their studio Stalker, and were tasked by Gremlin Graphics to program Alternative World Games (C64).
Sadly, on April 6, 2011, Zolnai told C64.COM that Pongyor had passed away a few years earlier.
