Friday the 13th is an action game based on the infamous movies. You pick between three male and female camp counselors, with each of them being either slow, medium, or fast. The goal of the game is to kill Jason. The easiest way to do this is to get a lighter from one of the zombies outside and light the fireplaces in all of the big cabins. There are also side quests you can do such as getting Jason's mother's sweater to take less damage. Another primary objective is to save the other camp counselors and the children. When you kill Jason the first time, he comes back to life and you have to play the game again. When you defeat Jason the second time, you are told that he's even stronger before, and the third time you defeat him, you are brought to a cliffhanger. Overall, like most movie-based games, the game did not do the movie any justice and was just another run-of-the-mill game.
Hideyuki Yokoyama worked on the game's production, planning, and graphics while Hirohiko Takayama did the music. According to Hideyuki, a freelance programmer with the last name Yamaguchi worked on the game as well.

Music
The game contains five songs composed by Hirohiko Takayama of Xexyz fame. Most of the songs are horrid loops that don't even last five seconds. The only really good songs in the game are the cabin and ending songs, and even they loop. The music does add a haunting feel to the game. According to Hirohiko, the main instrument was supposed to be a pipe organ. To make the game's music, Hirohiko wrote the music in assembly on MS-DOS, using a sound driver by Tsukasa Masuko.
