F1 Race is pretty much a clone of Pole Position. You play as an Formula 1 car and your goal is to get to the end of the track before the time runs out. You can choose between three skill levels, with the only major difference being the time limit and your less chances to mess up. There are ten tracks, and after the tenth track is completed, the game loops is until you lose, so it's a shame to know that the game can't be completed. It would have been nice to at least add an option for two players or a track select. The game was never released outside of Japan, probably because Nintendo didn't think it would sell well in western countries. The game did however, get unofficial re-releases, including where you race with UFOs, Boats and Bicycles.

The game was later ported to the Game Boy under the name "F-1 Race", which was available not only in Japan, but also Europe and the United States. It also supported 4 players.

Music

Since this is an early Famicom title, there's barely any music. The addition of in-game music would have been nice, but you don't even get that, you only get sounds.

Hideki did a great job with the music. Because it's such an early title, there are no staff credits. Hideki was the only composer who worked at HAL Laboratory at the time. Plus, the game Gall Force: Eternal Story's in-game music sounds identical. The instruction manual does not have credits either.

Another source of proof that Hideki worked on the music is the high score list in Mach Rider (VS). Not only that, but both games even share the same sound effects.

Hideki went on to compose the music for the infamous Mach Rider (NES).

Credits

(Source: High Scores in Mach Rider (VS), same sound effects, verification from staff; Game lacks credits.)

Because this is an early game, credits were uncommon in Famicom games at the time. We have received verification from a staff member at HAL that Hideki composed the music.

Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
