Elvira II: The Jaws of Cerberus is a sequel to Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (DOS), and the second game in the Elvira trilogy.

In this game, the player takes on the role of an unnamed protagonist. Elvira has recently acquired a studio, in which she wants to film horror movies. However, because the studio was built on haunted grounds, Cerberus ends up being summoned, and kidnaps Elvira, and plans to sacrifice her at midnight. It is up to the protagonist to save Elvira and defeat Cerberus.

The game is a point-and-click adventure game, with many RPG elements, almost similar to the Gold Box Dungeons & Dragons games. There are also different classes you can start out as. In addition, there are spells in the game that require ingredients to make, as well as a limited amount of strength to cast spells. There is also an experience points and leveling system present in the game.

Music

The music is very different in style and genres compared to the Amiga version - see Elvira II: The Jaws of Cerberus (AMI). It is netherless very well done, though some tracks can get a little repetitive. Unfortunately, much like other HorrorSoft/AdventureSoft games, the Adlib version is downright bad MIDI emulation with odd instrumentation.

Jezz wrote the music using Cubase for the Atari ST.

Recording

The music was recorded using different sound options marked by prefix numbers:

  1. Roland LAPC-I / MT-32
  2. Creative Labs Sound Blaster / AdLib

The VGZ files were logged in DOSBox in DRO format, then converted to VGM through DRO to VGM. File swapping methods were using to log the music during the title screen. Because mod7.mus is the title screen music, renaming any of the other mod#.mus files to mod7.mus will cause that particular song to play on the title screen instead.
