Edge was written by David Yackley using DirectMusic Producer and introduced in Microsoft DirectX Diagnostic Tool version 6.1 through 8.2 as a sample for testing DirectMusic functionality, before the song was replaced with Flourish by Nathan Grigg.

Edge, not at all suprisingly, sounds best on the cursed Microsoft Synthesizer, pushing it right up to the edge.
