Expanded MIDI (MID) is a music format created by Jim Dosé and Lee Jackson for the Apogee Sound System which was first used in Duke Nukem 3D (DOS) in 1996. The format is very similar to standard MIDI, but with additional controls for specific sound cards, added instructions for dynamic looping, volume changes, and tempo. Since the format is so similar to MIDI, many existing MIDI players will play the files, however, due to these custom additions, the files will not sound correct on a player unless it is designed to play EMIDI.
