Platform: DOS
Year: 1984
Developer: Kevin Bales

Castle Adventure is a home-brew text-based action adventure game where you are trapped in a deserted castle and must explore the castle in order to find a way out. The game kind of looks like Rouge or Kroz, but it's quite different in play style. Movement uses the arrow keys, and brief actions are typed into the parser like "Look Gate."

The game is one of the earliest examples of the pay-what-you-can model, as the creator Kevin Bales released the full game for free and just asked for donations. Unfortunately, this led to shady companies like Keypunch Software changing the title to "Golden Wombat" and selling it without Bales's permission.
