Big Nose Freaks Out is an action game developed in 1992 by Codemasters and published by Camerica. It is based on the Big Nose the Caveman franchise that was popular on early home computers such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga. The game was later released for Codemasters' Aladdin Deck Enhancer a year later.

You play as Big Nose the Caveman, who must travel through a few different worlds. The goal of each level is to get to the end while collecting as many bones as possible (which act like the coins in Super Mario Bros. (NES)).

The game had a short development team. It was designed and programmed by brothers Darren and Jason Falcus, graphics by Michael Muskett with music and sound by Allister Brimble.

Music

The game's music has a short soundtrack, but is very well composed. The triangle channel in the title screen makes a neat little 'plok!' sound most of the song, accompanied by arpeggios and a catchy drum loop. It also starts out with a nice chromatic-major scale which sounds both catchy and suspenseful. Unfortunately, there is no in-game music so all you're hear is the sound effects and stark silence. There are a few other songs for events in the game, but that's all you'll be hearing, like the intermission theme which plays during the cutscenes and level complete screens. It sounds very similar to a song from Linus Spacehead's Cosmic Crusade (NES), another game composed by Allister. The Continue Awarded jingle is just a rendition of the first part of the title screen.

The music was made by the famous Allister Brimble. Allister said he wrote the music in a tracker program he wrote, which converted his music over to Gavin Raeburn's NES sound driver.

Credits

Most Codemasters games on the NES lacked credits, and even the ones that did have credits left out the composer's name, so it's very fortunate to see the credits. The credits appear as soon as you turn on the game.
